hey, I’m Phoebe 👋

Phoebe Taylor (b. 1994. Toronto, Ontario) is not an alien, just autistic. Her work tries to make sense of the world around her (so far it isn’t working). As a writer and artist, Phoebe’s work explores the absurd and the soothing through written and video essays, poetry, and illustration. Her relentless and irreverent writing cuts through the meat to the bone. She is interested in  understanding and unveiling the truth of the room and (thanks to being autistic) doesn’t mind being blunt.

Phoebe’s work attempts to translate the experience of autism from the inside out. Distilling a language she wasn’t born to speak through dry humor and wit, her work shares the ugly parts of being human—the snot, the boogers, the spit, the experiences we stuff into our pockets, the moments we’re too scared to look at ourselves.

She received her BFA in Printmaking from OCAD University with a Minor in Creative Writing and has completed certificates in coaching, pilates and somatic. Phoebe was a shortlisted finalist in the 2024 Grit List Festival and recently published works in Yolk Magazine’s issue 3.2. Her poetry has gone viral on Tik Tok multiple times.

Phoebe is currently writing about autism, motherhood (while not being a parent), feminism, disability, and the shit white women say in their group chats, weekly on Substack. She is also working on a collection of essays that explores the tensions between these marginalized identities and a truck load of white and pretty privilege. She’s annoyed that her spaceship sent her down to make first contact, but is using her time on Earth to make sure everyone feels as uncomfortable and weird as she does.
